With some realism and excellent special effects one of the most famous fairytales is brought to life with a little twist to the story. This unique look at this story brings much more action and adventure to the tale and makes you wonder if this really happened.
When the Monks created magic beans to try to reach God, they discover a land between heaven and earth that is the home of dangerous giants who have a thirst for human blood. After King Erik defeats one of the giants, he and the Monks create a crown with magic and the blood from the giant’s heart. This crown has the power to control the giants and King Erik sends them home. When the magic beans and the crown are stolen, the threat of the giant’s return becomes real.
Years later, Jack (Nicholas Hoult) is told to go to town to sell the family horse where he is tricked by a Monk when he sells it for these magical beans. His uncle (Christopher Fairbank) in anger takes the beans and loses one under the floor board.
The Princess Isabelle (Eleanor Tomlinson) is looking for adventure and decides to run away from the castle. When she comes upon a storm she is forced to stop at Jack’s home. Suddenly, the beanstalk grows and takes Jack’s home and the princess into the clouds. When the King Brahmwell (Ian McShane) and his Guardians, led by Elmont (Ewan McGregor), arrive at Jack’s farm they decide to climb up the beanstalk to rescue her.
With the six best guardians assembled, Elmont along with the princess’s husband to be Roderick (Stanley Tucci), his assistant Wicke (Ewen Bremner) and Jack, they climb up the beanstalk not knowing what they will encounter. The battle of the humans and the Giants is an adventure of its own and these men must try to defeat General Fallon (Bill Nighly) and his men of ferocious giants.
Director Bryan Singer brought this popular fairytale to life and went even further with fantastic special effects and unique action scenes. The CGI performed with the giants was spectacular and done well. He went one step further with the outstanding and realistic view of the giants storming the castle.
I thought this was a very enjoyable story that takes what we already know about the fairytale and brings it much further. Its excellent special effects brought me into the film and made me feel as if I were there. The action scenes are impressive along with the storyline’s unique twist and will definitely entertain you.
