J.D. and the Straight Shot Release
Their Latest Album “Midnight Run”
L. Paul Mann

J.D. And the Straight Shot have made themselves a well known fixture on the music festival circuit, playing their own unique mix of southern blues rock and Louisiana swamp music to the delight of an ever growing fan base. The group has just released their fifth recording, since coming together in 2005. “Midnight Run”, is a departure from their more hard rocking earlier material, focusing more on the eloquent musical structures that are the geneses of their own brand of southern style rock. The new album features a variety of southern sounds featuring blue grass tunes complete with harmonica and banjo tracks, as well as blues and country tunes, and a pair of New Orleans inspired songs, dripping with a Dr John infused swamp music funk. The band is probably most well known for their song “Can't Make Tears”, which became the theme song for the smash television hit series, “Hell ON Wheels”. The title track from their last album, the song appears on the new release in a reworked version blending seamlessly with the other six melodic tracks on the recording. The title track of the new album “Midnight Run”, was re-recorded by music legend Willie Nelson, to be used as the theme song for the 2012 motion picture, “Lawless”.
