I have been in LA for several months now and have been truly missing classic Italian restaurants from back home. Finally, my craving for authentic tasting Italian has been fulfilled.
I went to C & O Trattoria in Marina del Rey with a large group of ladies for dinner and we had a great time. When I first walked in to the restaurant and sat down I was wondering why there were heat lamps inside, keeping me nice and toasty warm. Then I looked up and realized there was no ceiling! We were still outside! So cool. They have tall walls, painted and decorated to look and feel like you're in Italy. And you can look up and see the beautiful open sky. They have strung lights going across the top, and a water fountain towards the front of the restaurant, creating a very cozy and romantic atmosphere.
The tables have a large jug of Chianti wine, which I tried for $5.95 a glass (a smaller glass). It didn't taste like the Chianti Classico that I'm used to, but it wasn't bad. The staff also continuously brings out the most amazing garlic bread rolls. I mean, continuously - as soon as you grab one, there's another one immediately put down! The bread rolls are so addictive, so be careful to save room for the yummy pasta!
The waiters were excellent. Our waters were constantly refilled, along with those amazing garlic bread rolls, and we were always given enough plates, utensils, and serving pieces for everyone. Our waiter was funny, friendly, and did a great job making sure we were taken care of. He easily took care of our split bills at the end of the night with no hiccups or anything.
The food is served family style, so believe me when I say that portions are huge - especially after filling up on all those garlic bread rolls! They're dangerous! We had a somewhat large group but ordered a couple of different salads to try to start. They were delicious! We then ordered several pasta dishes, all to be shared family style. The lobster linguini pasta with seafood in it was so amazing. I could eat it every day! All of the pasta dishes were very tasty and well done. Finally, authentic tasting Italian food in LA! I was thrilled.
We were all brought left over containers and we divided up the pasta so we could each take some home. Overall, C & O Trattoria is an awesome place with delicious food, excellent service, and adorable ambiance. I can't wait to go back!
