Do you want a movie your kids can see that is fun and silly at the same time? “Cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2” is just the ticket. Bill Hader reprises his role as Flint Lockwood; the scientist who created a machine that turns water into food. However in this movie, we learn that his childhood idol, Chester V (Will Forte) who runs the Live Corp Company is recruiting inventors to create technologies that will benefit all of mankind. Lockwood’s right hand man is Barb, Kristen Schaal, an Orangutan. Barb hands out mocha’s and caffeine patches as she gives Flint a tour of the company.
Aside from this, our other favorites in the series, Flint’s dad, Tim Lockwood, (James Caan) Sam Sparks (Ana Faris) and Brent (Andy Samberg) return as his friends. There are the expected puns (at one point as a slab of marine margin melts it says butter and then Parkay) yet, the story itself is predictable and not nearly as funny.
What will happen when the food becomes alive and has children? Chester V tells Flint that the food is dangerous and could destroy the world. Mayhem ensues, along with the obligatory chase scenes, and the coming together of friends. Still one must say that the cute marshmallows that befriend Flint at the end save the day, not only in humor but in the sheer sweetness. This is family fun for all.
