It’s all about the sauce: Sauces, spices and marinades

Nandos Peri Peri in the heart of downtown Silver Spring has captured this ideal and held true to it. The African Bird’s Eye Chilli is what differentiates their spices from the rest. Nandos Peri Peri is a proud Southern African fused with Portuguese style restaurant and from the decor and art work to the fantastic food you know that they put a lot of energy into it.

The menu had many options and but mainly variations of chicken so I knew that it was going to be at least decent. It is hard to mess up chicken. I ordered a quarter chicken leg + thigh with a mango lime sauce and let me tell you it’s all about the sauce at Peri Peri. The sauce sent me into frenzy from the name and so it had a great expectation to uphold and it did to the last morsel.

It came with two sides and if you’re feeling frisky, please try the butternut squash and grilled corn, such a new approach to squash. Normally it’s sauteed and that has it's place and time, but the combination of these two veggies with the dried cranberries and fresh cilantro could have been a meal in and of itself to be honest.

Sides do not make the meal, but this one takes the whole course to the next level. I got the red skinned mashed potatoes as well and not too much skin is perfect for me, moist great consistency. Although their mango Ceylon is unsweetened it rounded out the meal. Let me know if you feel the same about Nandos Peri Peri.
