It's a Grind coffee shop: The Justin Bieber of Carlsbad

Everyone has heard of the Canadian pop star, Justin Bieber. However, how many would actually keep his songs on a regularly scheduled playlist? While he has the look and his songs are catchy, there's not much more to him than aesthetics. His problem is that he has no special talent that gives him lasting appeal, like Michael Jackson’s dance moves or Kelly Clarkson’s powerful voice.

Along the beach of Carlsbad sits a coffee shop with the same problem as Bieber. It’s a Grind coffee shop has no lasting appeal. Sure, its trendy portraits of famous rock musicians like Clapton and B.B. King make it visually appealing, and its abundance of comfortable seating and cool music give it a cool vibe, but where is that lasting value?

The menu items are trendy and interesting, and the rich desserts are stunningly displayed, but all of these details are built upon a weak foundation of bland, wimpy coffee. Like Bieber, it draws in the crowds and everyone looked satisfied when they left, but what did they take away besides an ordinary cup of coffee?

Perhaps Bieber’s fans were swayed by his side-swept haircut or his boyish smile, and didn’t care much about his lasting value. Perhaps this is what makes crowds attend It’s a Grind as well.
