So I finally got a chance to sit down and watch Bad Milo. I have to say when I first heard of the film I was not to keen on seeing it but I’m glad I finally did. Bad Milo is hilarious for all the wrong reasons. In my opinion it holds more ground than Hell Baby and has better overall tone to it. Bad Milo is not scary at all but reminds me of the creature features I love from my past like Ghoulies, Basket Case and Chud. The films stars Ken Marino (Role Models) as an over stressed husband who seems to have an issue looming in his stomach. Come to find out there is a small ancient demon inside of him that carries out a death wish for anyone Marino has opposition with.
Gillian Jacobs co stars as his wife who is trying to deal with the stomach issues of her husband but feels like there is another problem more pressing. It creates one of the funnier segments of the film highlighted by the comedy of Kumail Nanjiani who steals every scene he is involved with. Soon Marino finds out about the creature and is told that he needs to coddle the monster as a way to keep it from killing. The main problem with Milo is it lives in the intestines of Marino and enters and leaves through his ass. Also he needs to lower his stress as a way not to invoke the monster in the first place. Easier said than done as his boss played by Patrick Warburton gives him the task of firing people in the office. Add to that a weird relationship with his pot head dad and Marino’s character (Duncan) doesn't stand a chance.
There is tons of stuff to like about Bad Milo as I think you will find this film wildly entertainment. It’s not scary by any means and frankly there wasn't too much gore. If you look at Bad Milo as a comedy first then you will get it. If you are expecting pure horror then this is not for you. I did feel as if the point of the film was established early but the overall comedy helped keep the pace up of Bad Milo.
The cast is what keeps Bad Milo in good standing. Marino shows he is more than worthy as a lead man and the performance of his co stars is spot on. Outside of Kumail the role of the hypnotherapist Highsmith, played by Peter Stormare is a treat. He is the one trying to help Marino cope with Milo and he and his parrot have hilarious exchanges that really shine in the film.
So if you are looking for something out of the ordinary to watch this Halloween season then I will say check out Bad Milo. Bad Milo pays homage to the great creature features of the 80’s. It will be a cult favorite and one to add to your collection.
