"Silver Linings Playbook" stars Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrenceand looks into the complicated relationship between the two over the course of the film. The movie has Academy Award nominations in all four of the acting categories, Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing. If 'Silver Linings Playbook" were to win in any of those categories it would be for Jennifer Lawrence as Best Actress. All of the other actors, Cooper, Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver, even Julia Stiles and Chris Tucker do fine work in the film but Lawrence is still the best thing about the movie. She's great at playing rough characters much like her other Oscar nominated performance in "Winter's Bone." It is still playing in Hartford here.
The movie is about former high school teacher Patrizio Solitano Jr. (Bradley Cooper) and how he relates to the people around him after being institutionalized and treated for bipolar disorder. He's still hung up on his ex- wife Nikki and finds interesting and hilarious ways to find out her whereabouts. Along the way he meets Tiffany Maxwell (Jennifer Lawrence) a girl who's also had some tough times recently. Together they decide to enter a dance competition and help each other out in the process as a result.
It's a funny yet moving film that was well received when it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Unfortunately, "Silver Linings Playbook" might be easily forgotten by viewers once they leave the theater - especially in a year packed with other fantastic films. Still, it deserves a spot as an Oscar Best Picture nominee and is well worth a trip to the cinemas.
