East coaster Roc Marciano takes cues from sharp-tongued New York lyricists comparable to the likes of the mighty Wu affiliates, yet blazes his own path, for his third LP, Marci Beaucoup. For this project, Marciano recruits high talent, old and new, who help him to create a lyrical wonder world of cerebral gangsta rhymes set against smooth beats that elevate elevator music tastes. Many of the verses here are really brainy, giving the album strong playback value. Seek it out not for in-depth story telling or extended narratives, but rather for sharp punchlines and exquisite depictions and illustrations. Based on the treasures of this work, Marciano might be as gifted with a paintbrush as he is with a microphone. Either way, Marci Beaucoup is a must hear for new-agers.
