About the Brewery: Located in an industrial section of King Street, Intuition Ale works appears to be a warehouse with the simple logo on the side of the building. The location is not particularly appealing on the approach, but is fantastic upon arrival.
The atmosphere is modern and fun with a mix of college aged students and working professionals from the Riverside area. The main tasting room is simple, low lit, and decorated with wood flooring, a decent sized wooden bar and several dark high top tables throughout the room. The tasting room can fit about 75 people comfortably, although it often packs in larger crowds. There is another large bar located in the brewery that is open on busy nights and special occasion such as the Underdark release party. The brewery bar has a much larger space than the taproom and consists of a huge wooden bar, picnic tables, and games.
The Beer: Jet black with a small amount of head and light lacing. The aroma is chocolate, oak, light bourbon, coffee. The taste holds true to the smell, with sweet bourbon and oak coming prevalent. Overall it drinks very smooth for such a complex, high ABV, and thick bodied brew.
Food Pairing: Steak with cream sauce, gorgonzola, feta, or bleu cheese with fig spread, sea salt caramel ice cream, cheesecake
The Final Word: The release party was a fantastic experience with hundreds, if not thousands, of Jacksonville beer lovers around to discuss beer and play games with. The beer was great in January and continued to age lovely as determined when an additional bottle was opened in early October. Hopefully this release becomes a yearly occurrence.
