Like 'The Empire Strikes Back' is to 'Star Wars' 'Insidious: Chapter 2' is to 'Insidious'. This sounds like an obvious statement about a sequel but there is much more to it than that. These sci-fi horror cousins share more than second installment status. Their similarities are simple. They are both superior in there respective genres and equally jumbled in there delivery.
There is no doubt that 'Insidious: Chapter 2' is horror at it's best. It's dread filled atmosphere renders you vulnerable to the sweet scares hidden between the frames, causing any true fright fan what they love best, an actual bone chilling physical reaction. Director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell are near perfect at delivering fear. Their film is spook show as dark ride fun mixed with paranormal ghost hunting greatness. The Lambert family is still haunted and in danger. This chapter picks up where 'Insidious' left off and works hard to both answer questions leftover by the first while creating new curiosities for the, fingers crossed, next installment. As a matter of fact movie goers should probably take a look at "chapter one" of this story to enjoy 'Insidious: Chapter 2'. This would make the aforementioned jumble a lot more forgivable. And forgive it you should because this is too great a terror filled adventure to miss. The entire previous cast is back and played to perfection. Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne make you feel there plight, while Lin Shaye and Steve Coulter makes us have faith that all will be well.
'Insidious: Chapter 2' is a chilling gift to any horror fan. Lets hope that James Wan never tires of scaring the masses, because in 2013 we all need a fantasy freakout more than ever.
