Insidious: Chapter 2

The beleaguered Lambert family have escaped their home and the horrible demons that had their son.

Official poster

Josh (Patrick Wilson), Rania (Rose Byrne), Dalton (Ty Simpkins), Foster (Andrew Astor) and Lorraine Lambert (Barbara Hershey) escape to Lorraine’s Victorian home.

Even though Josh went into the netherworld and got his son back, something followed him out.

This is the setting for “Insidious: Chapter 2.”

Elise, (Lin Shay) the psychic that helped Josh when he was a child and returned to help his son, is dead-killed by whatever came through from the other side, the dark side.

Since Josh is haunted and the family is being attacked by the 'ghosts' from the other side, they're pretty much screwed. No Elise to help them see what and where these evil ones are hiding. However, Elise has friends and they are on their way to help. They start searching for Elise.

Horror sequels are notorious for being bad. Insidious: Chapter 2 isn’t as bad as some, but it certainly isn’t as good as the first film which was well received by critics and audiences.

Notice I didn’t go into a huge synopsis of the film above. That’s because you’ve seen it all in the first film. They use almost ever single scary thing they had in the first film. So, no big surprises. What we didn't see from the first film was all the really creepy other-worldly beings. There are some, of course, but, not like the first film.

I love Lin Shaye who plays Elise, she is a bright spot in this and most films she's in and since you know they are looking for her, you can assume they found her.

“Insidious: Chapter 2” is worth watching for a few reasons. Lin Shaye is in it and there are a few good scares. Otherwise, watch the original film and hope for a decent sequel to “The Conjuring.” Keep in mind that James Wan also directed "The Conjuring."

Indie Roots

There are very few directors or actors who didn’t do their time in the independent film ring. Below are some examples of indie actors that are in "Insidious: Chapter 2."

Director James Wan director a short film entitled “Saw.” Yes, this did become the the st of the “Saw” films in feature length form.

Lin Shaye who was in the original "Nightmare on Elm Street" and an excellent little indie called "Dead End."

Angus Sampson who played Tucker started off doing Indie shorts. His first was entitled "Dags" and he played a character named Prozac.

Leigh Whannell who wrote the screenplay was also involved in the "Saw" short and other films in that franchise. Leigh played Specs.
