How much do you hate shaving your legs? How much more do you hate spending money to shave your legs just to get razor burn? According to www.statistic brain.com the average woman commits $10,000 and 72 days to shaving. 58% of American women using shaving as their primary hair removal method and they spend an average of 10.9 minutes doing so. What a waste. Call me crazy but I found myself looking for an alternative.
The salon I work at has a business within it offering laser skin treatments including; tattoo removal/fading, laser genesis, and laser hair removal. The clinic is called Inkoff.me; and is owned by Eric Zacharias M.D. and operated by Chris Bendinelli R.N. and his team of amazing nurses. After poking around and researching the technology they use I found out how comfortable and permanent the laser treatment was. I made my appointment with Karlee who manages the day to day operations and she was very knowledgeable about the service; she made sure I had all the information I needed to prepare for the service.
Inkoff.me. uses the Cutera Cool Glide Laser for hair removal which is the best on the market. It works on all skin types and tones which separates it from other laser systems. The Cool Glide can be used on the most sensitive parts of the body. Results are typically seen after the first treatments, however three to six treatments are generally necessary to see the full results. This is because hair is not always in an active growing state so you have to try and catch it at the right times. The hand piece for this system has a glass like rectangle at the base which is where the light pulsates from into the skin and zaps the hair shaft. One should expect mild to moderate discomfort when the light pulsates, depending on the thickness of the hair and the amount of hair follicles in the treatment area.
For my first treatment I saw Nurse Barbara. She immediately made me feel comfortable by explaining exactly how the laser works as well as what to expect during and after treatment. Barbara had recently attended a seminar where she learned some best practices to minimize discomfort. Because I was treating my bikini zone I was interested in anything that might make this less painful. She provided me with a bag of ice to hold opposite of the area being treated. My level of discomfort was really mild. Barbara was surprised by my having such a high tolerance to the sensation. I would compare the sensation to a rubber band hitting your skin lightly. She explained that most patients felt more discomfort than I did and wondered if the ice trick really worked that well or if I just have a high tolerance for pain.
After my treatment Barbara and I reviewed some after care and what to expect as far as results. Typically a patient will see the greatest results after the first treatment but should not expect full results until after 3-6 treatments due to hair growth cycles. The hair shaft will continue to push the dead hair up through the shaft until it falls out, which can take about two weeks. It seems like the hair is still growing but it’s not. After two weeks I could see results and since then I haven’t had to shave my bikini zone nearly as often; only every two to three days. Not having to shave as often has made razor burn a thing of the past! The hair that remains to come in is few and far between.
I am scheduled for my second treatment in the beginning of January and I cannot wait! I am also getting my underarms treated because they are the next most sensitive area that I cannot stand to shave. Their pricing is very competitive for the market and the service is unparalleled! I felt more comfortable with Barbara than I do with my own doctor. She talked to me during the whole process and made me feel like I had known her my whole life.
