“Spellbinding…expertly mixes joy, pain, suspense and magic.” -Publishers Weekly starred review.
Inkheart(2003) is a timeless story about a book and the dangers of really getting lost in one
Mo Folchart is a bookbinder and he and his twelve year old daughter Meggie travel a lot for clients who need Mo’s skills. But Mo has another skill, one that prevents him from ever reading a book out loud. Years before, Mo was reading Inkheart and out of the pages comes the characters, the evil Capricorn and Basta, the fire breather Dustfinger and a creature called a marten named Gwin.
Meggie then finds herself trapped inside an adventure that she had only read about and up against Capricorn’s army. Now she must find the strength and magic inside of herself in order to defeat the nightmares of the Inkworld.
Inkheartis a NEW YORK TIMES Bestseller, USA TODAY Bestseller, ALA Notable Book, PUBLISHERS WEEKLY Best Children’s Book and KIRKUS REVIEWS Editor’s Choice.
Meggie’s conflicts with the characters from the Inkworld continue in Inkspell (2005) and are concluded in Inkdeath (2008).
Inkheartwas treated to the big screen in 2008 staring Brendan Fraser as Mo, Eliza Bennett as Meggie and Paul Bettany as Dustfinger. Brendan Fraser was Cornelia Funke’s inspiration for Mo and her first and only choice for the actor to play him.
Inkheart is part seven in Movie Month.
