Utah’s first indoor dog swimming pool is now open in the Millcreek area! Barley's Canine Recreation Center opened in April and offers a large clean, non-chlorinated pool for your dog to enjoy year-round.
A one-hour orientation class is just $25 for up to 2 dogs and will get your pooch acquainted with the water and the facility. Your dog will need to have all of his/her vaccinations up to date before your first visit.
Swimming is a great form of non-impact exercise for your dog and is an excellent way to rehabilitate a dog who needs a gentle way to get back to mobility. If your dog is around water in the outdoors, it's nice to have a few sessions to safely introduce your dog to swimming.
Barley's provides life vests that fit a variety of sizes of dogs, or if your dog already has his own, you are welcome to bring it. For the orientation, your dog will be in the water with one of the staff members at Barley's who will make sure your dog is safe and encourage a fun experience.
Swimming is enjoyed by dogs of all sizes but is not for everyone. It's important to be able to read your dogs enthusiasm level and if he's really enjoying the experience or not as to not cause unnecessary stress to your dog.
Barley's is a wonderful facility and one I'm certain to return to. Their staff is enthusiastic, helpful and knowledgeable. They also offer indoor agility, daycare, field trips for your dog to go walking or hiking, massage, acupuncture and dog sitting. They are right next door to Dirty Johnson's Self-Service Dog Wash at 2827 South 2300 East.
