Starring in the show is a witty, imaginative cast, including Kelly Holden-Bashar, Lauren Rose Lewis, Michelle Spears, Stephen Kearin, Dan O'Connor, Paul Rogan, and Brian Michael Jones.

If you're looking for an entertaining night featuring several clever minds whose acting and writing talents interface seamlessly to deliver a deeply satisfying comedic performance, this show is for you. The play can easily be seen repeatedly, as the focused ensemble of players create a newly imagined Jane Austen novel, presented in the context of a theatrical performance, with every show. One example of how this cast creates original content yet places it in an historical context is that several actors, particularly Kelly Holden-Bashar (who plays the youngest sister) do a brilliant job of reading imagined sonnets aloud and in unison, even though the paper they are looking at is blank. Actress Michelle Spears gives a standout, spontaneous performance as the middle sister who, in this improvised version, is devoted to the art of whittling unusual objects and uses this quirky characteristic (which was suggested by the audience) to further the plot. Spears is equally believable and comedic in her role-not an easy balance for any actor to maintain, yet she pulls it off naturally and without calling attention to herself. Stephen Kearin is also notable as the hilariously spurned, sometimes misguided, but always well-intentioned, lovesick letter writer who is taken with Michelle Spears' character. Lauren Rose Lewis delivers a consistently capable performance as the eldest sister of the family who, much like in Elinor in Sense and Sensibility, represents common sense, yet struggles against her heart until she can no longer hide her emotions because the love she feels is so strong that it breaks through her even most basic nature.

Jane Austen Unscripted is highly recommended for a memorable and delightful experience of improvised comedy, rife with familiar Jane Austen character types for lovers of history, literature, theatre, or for anyone who likes to laugh.

This production has been presented by The Broad Stage at 1310 11th St., Santa Monica, CA 90401 (December 13-15 & 20-22).
