Image Comics Five Weapons review

Image Comics and Shadowline delivers the all-new series Five Weapons from creator Jimmie Robinson. Five Weapons tells the story of where world’s most deadly assassins educate their children, the prestigious School of Five Weapons. Here they train in martial arts pledging their loyalty to one “club”: knives, staves, Archery, Exotics, and Guns, but when a new student arrives carrying a name that both students and teachers recognize they all vie for his loyalty, but his razor sharp mind keeps him far from easy to pin down.

Shadowline continues to deliver the most unique comics in the industry and Five Weapons is no different. As expected the first issue sets up not only the direction of the series, but also numerous questions that are sure to be answered as the series moves forward. The idea behind the book feels like the idea of the mysterious school similar to Hoggwart’s but instead for assassins, with a bit of the classic film Battle Royale thrown in. With this introduction issue it plays up pretty lighthearted, but has the promise to go in numerous directions to keep the reader on their toes. Jimmie Robinson’s art plays perfect for this story and is beautiful to look at while still delivering a sense of serious fun. This issue has everything needed to make a debut issue work while still making you crave for more.

This could be one of the best new series out there if each issue delivers as much fun and mystery as this first one. Big props to Robinson as he has taken aspects from numerous successful properties and created one that is still original and all his own like no other. If this book is not in your line of fire, then you are sure to miss the target all together.
