I wrote this illustrated book as a fun reminder to kids about exercise, diet, and healthy eating, and for parents interested in a book about childhood obesity. Vanessa's friend moves away, and bad weather keeps her inside so she gains some weight. Her friend Tessie, a horse of course, eats too much green grass and also gains weight which causes serious hoof problems. She has to stay in the barn and go on a diet. When they meet, they help each other lose weight and have lots of fun doing it.
This book is a humorous treatment of a serious problem, childhood obesity and suggestions for weight loss. It suggests eating and exercise ideas to help kids cope with emotional eating, inactivity, and unhealthy food choices. Also of interest to children who love horses, (and horses who want to lose weight). Great for grade school children and for parents to read to younger children and for public and school libraries. Professional quality illustrations by Shekhar and Company. Suggestions to cope with obesity and diet are included at the end. A healthy diet and exercise can be easier for children if they are motivated and dieting becomes disguised as fun. This book is fun because it allows children to interact by saying yeah and nay to thoughtful questions about eating, at the ends of some of the pages.
