I Spit On Your Grave 2

I Spit On Your Grave 2 is a grotesque, sadistic tale of vengeance and retribution. It’s a horrific abomination that isn’t for the faint of heart. The film is a disturbing tale of cruelty, torture, and savagery that shows the appalling nature of man. It's a great example of the embrace of the change in the horror genre from thrills and chills to the blood and guts gore fest that Hollywood adores. It’s a direct to video feature that debuted in 2013. The movie stars Jemma Dellender (Community), Yavor Bahorov (Tilt), Joe Absolom (Thorne: Scardeycat), Mary Stockley (The Woman in Black), and Alexander Alexseiv (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit).
A young woman is brutally raped and tortured. She barely escapes but then she returns for revenge against the perpetrators. She uses a number of extremely malicious ways to ensure that her assailants meet their end.
I Spit On Your Grave 2 is the follow up to the film that premiered in 2010. It’s the second film based on the cult classic from 1978. “Grave 2” is not truly a sequel as it doesn’t contain the same characters nor does it continue the story of the first one. Since the success of the first remake, they decided to attempt to cash in on its success. It’s just another iteration to use torture then female driven vengeance as its basis. This one uses the same premise as the first.
This film is less about story and more about the grotesque events that the story is built around. It intensifies the viciousness in a number of ways to try to separate this movie from the other. From the rape, to the torture, to the methods of revenge, “Spit 2”attempts to equal the madness of the first movie but it falls short. The rape scene is ratcheted up several notches to make sure that the audience gets what it came for. It’s far more direct and visual this time around. Some of the revenge kills are not as extreme or creative as the original but are far more personal.
The cast is comprised of unknowns. Young Jemma Dellander (Katie) does a good job at carrying the weight of the film. She does a really good job as the victim turned avenger. The other members of the cast are just fluff that take a back seat to the horrific events that are forthcoming.
I Spit On Your Grave 2 is not a film for those with a weak stomach. The events of the film are deplorable and completely degrading. It takes a strong stomach to be able to endure some of the scenes in the film. The film doesn’t have the attention grabbing severity or creativity in the revenge scenes that the first one had but they are still extremely heinous. It’s a movie that will really test your visual sensitivity and make the strongest person a bit squeamish. This one isn’t as good as the 2010 version and is clearly just a chance to make a few bucks off of something that was a hit not that long ago. If you can find something better to watch then please do. It isn’t worth buying so just try to catch it on cable or from the Redbox.
