Lucky Pie Pizza & Tap House will make you feel lucky as well. With its resplendent happy hour, decadent food, and amiable vibe, you will feel like you've found a favorite hang-out.
As you may have guessed from the latter part of the name, beer is the drink of choice here, and a very fine selection it is, with an especial focus on the local craft beer scene. Kick back and have a pint or two. Don't limit yourself to the draft or canned choices, though; indulge in one of the many fine bottle selections from superstars Russian River, Ommegang, Odell, as well as options straight from Belgium. Not a beer fan? Fear not. The wine list is eclectic and extensive, and there are creative cocktails as well.
Happy hour occurs daily from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. In addition to such drink specials as $3 beer-of-the-week drafts and select canned beers for $2, happy hour features inexpensive, gnosh-worthy snacks. Nothing is run-of-the-mill here: dig into the squeaky cheese, kale chips, or bacon peanut brittle. Or why not all three?
Overall, the menu focuses pretty heavily on our animal friends: braised oxtail. Pork belly. Lamb meatballs. Crispy pig ears. Bunny pot pie (yes, you read that right). But vegetarians need not despair. On top of some yummy soups, salads, and snack-sized apps, pizzas are abundant here as well. You can pick your own toppings, including a fried egg or deviled ham, or go with one of the unusually paired but oddly delicious pre-fabbed combinations. A particular favorite features Brussels' sprouts, pistachios, apples, and fontina and mozzarella. Delicioso!
Lucky Pie has two locations: the original in Old Town Louisville, and the newer branch in LoDo (in the former Dixon's space). The Denver one has a fabulous patio right off the 16th Street Mall, and that joyous patio drinking season is fast approaching! There are also plenty of TVs behind the bar for March Madness viewing...plus you can strike up a conversation with one of the friendly barkeeps.
Table servers are fabulous as well--enthusiastic, willing to chat even when busy, and incredibly knowledgeable about both food and drink menus. Not sure if you'll like a beer or the roasted bone marrow appetizer? Don't be afraid to ask.
Not only will you want to hang out at Lucky Pie for happy hour, drinks, snacks, or dinner. You'll also want to keep their event calendar on your radar. Events feature paired food and drink samplers and are uniquely created. Another note: the menu does make some seasonal changes, and keeps things (choices and ingredients) fresh. Lucky Pie is also available for private events: http://luckypiepizza.com/lodo-events/.
