This whole group of games would usually cost $54 but with the Humble Weekly Sale it will only cost you $6. Of course you can always donate more. The Humble Roguelike Weekly Sale will end on Thursday, January 30th, 2014 at 11 A.M. Pacific Time. Read on for a review of each of the games available in the sale.
David Williamson’s charming little game is very roguelike. With descriptive text scrolling off to the side of your screen as you hack and slash until you inevitably die the game feels very old school. The player may choose between different characters, settings and quests to play through giving the game a lot of variety. Either choose the combination of each you like or set the game to random and be surprised. The game offers thousands of items, monsters and dungeons as you battle through different dungeons in each game. The game controls are easy to pick up yet the gameplay is rather difficult in true “Rogue” fashion.
This fast paced dungeon exploring shooter from Code Avarice is a real gem in the Roguelike Weekly Sale. Choose your weapon and get dropped into the paranautical dungeon. The randomly generated map will pit you against demons which you must eliminate before moving onto the next room much like “Binding of Isaac”. Monsters will drop coins, ammo and shields which you can upgrade with purchases from each levels gift shop. The game has an exhilarating dubstep soundtrack that meshes well with the classic FPS action. The game is difficult to beat but easy to get started with.
Tongue-in-cheek and full of replay value Gaslamp Games’ “Dungeons of Dredmor” is a faithful reincarnation of the traditional “Rogue”. The game offers lots of character customization allowing the player to choose many skills to create their unique hero to play. There are randomly generated dungeons and excruciating difficulty which just makes you want to play all the more. “Dungeons of Dredmor Complete” includes the base game “Dungeons of Dredmor”, the "Conquest of the Wizardlands" DLC and "Realm of the Diggle Gods" DLC making this Humble Weekly Sale a great deal!
“Teleglitch” is a survival horror Roguelike from Paradox Interactive. Survive a science facility on the qaurenteened planet of Medusa which has been overrun by out of control experiments. The game is a top down shooter with some slightly complicated controls so it’s recommended you start with the tutorial. Eerie camera angles and interesting lighting set the mood of the game. Be prepared to die often but the procedurally generated map keeps things fresh. The DLC provides eight new starting guns and utilities with some mood setting music. This game is only available to play if unlocked on Steam and pay $6 or more.
Traditional dungeon crawling RPG with a sci-fi twist this roguelike game from Kerberos Productions has a rich story. Journeying into an ancient alien facility to find a lifesaving cure this game is more about the story. It isn’t quite like anything else and it honestly can be a bit tough to figure out what’s going on at first. The gameplay is fast paced and turn based. The Gold Edition includes “Sword of the Stars: The Pit”, “Sword of the Stars: The Pit - Mind Games” and “Sword of the Stars: The Pit - Gold Edition DLC”. This game is only available if you pay $6 or more.
“The Binding of Isaac” is a twisted allegory about a young boy escaping his murderous mother. From the twisted minds of Edmund McMillen and Florian Himsl this “Legend of Zelda” inspired game is quirky, fast paced and tough as nails to beat. Available in a previous Humble Bundle this weekly sale is also offering the DLC making it worthwhile even if you already have the base game. The “Wrath of the Lamb DLC” adds new monsters, items and dungeons making the game even more difficult. The game has grown rather popular since its release and for good reason. Pay at least $6 and this fun game and it’s DLC can be yours.
