Allia Nolan—Seattle Examiner:

Hugs and kisses, God, by Allia Zobel Nolan, Illustrated by Miki Sakamoto, Zonderkidz, 2011, 16 Pages, Ages 3 and Up, ISBN-13: 978-0310722632, $6.99

In this interactive, fun-filled picture book, Allia Z Nolan, former Reader’s Digest editor and bestselling author of 130 children’s books, continues the multicultural theme she used in “Thank You, God.”

Where Asian, African, European and Hispanic children learn they share things in common through a catchy rhyming story. The first colorful double spread page by Miki Sakamoto illustrates a little boy’s room with mom and dad peeking around the bedroom door jamb. They see a teddy bear snuggled into the pillows, a pup on the bed and toys scattered across the floor.

As you read the story, little ones raise the “lift-the-flap” to discover a little boy raising a drawn bedroom shade to send “…hugs and kisses to the Lord” in thanksgiving for another day.

In this engaging saddle-stitched picture book children learn to pray, to thank God for food, school, parties and for grandma’s who read Bible stories. They also learn about God’s love, the importance of sharing, and the blessings of “…play beneath the summer time skies…and for flashing fireflies.”

Although scripture isn’t used, a strong moral message of love, kindness and respect for the Lord is self-evident. Preview the book on YouTube:
