Today is the day that the mob enforcer of Port Charles, Jason Morgan played by Steve Burton moves to Genoa City in a different persona, that of Dylan Mcavoy. General Hospital fans cry foul and Young and the Restless fans do not want to see former GH scribe Jill Farren Phelps to change the mob free soap opera turned into PC 2.
When Steve Burton quit GH he moved to Nashville and stated he wanted to live a simpler life in a place that was good for his family. There were unsubstantiated rumors, now substantiated, that he had a secret pact with his friend, Farren Phelps to bring him to Y&R and also some "other"projects. Mr. Burton claims he just could not settle down and needed to work. He will not be the center of the story line here as he was on GH(one hopes) and will have more time at home. He is quoted here as saying: "I've smiled more on the show than I ever have in my life. Dylan definitely has a sense of humor. You get to see a lighter side of me, as an actor. Y&R viewers are much different than GH viewers. GH was mob centric, though it has changed since the 'Dynamic Duo' has taken over, where Y&R is more family and business oriented and because of this it remains the number one soap, mainly because of the use of all of it's characters instead of a two or three character soap.
The fans will watch very carefully to see how Mr. Burton fits into the show and whether he will be a part of an ensemble or become the central figure. Y&R has hunks galore and SB will be one of many. Can he handle this? Can the fans handle this? We know the character was involved with Phyliss' sister Avery, who is now involved with resident hottie, Nick Newman. Will Dylan break them up? Also what is he writing in the book he keeps in his room?
We shall soon see since today is Steve Burton's first day on the show. Are you in favor of Mr Burton on Y&R or do you want Jason back in Port Charles? And what has Jill Farren Phelps got up her sleeve? One shudders in anticipation.
The Young and the Restless can be seen weekdays on CBS at 12:30 p.m.
