Memory Manager 4.0 by Creative Memories changes the way the genealogist organize, store, and share photographs and scanned documents.
The images are stored in vaults. The actual image, revisions, data, and notes are stored with the program. I have chosen to use two external hard drives. One drive is for the working vault documents and the second drive is for the shadow copy, Memory Manager’s way of backing up the vault images. Creative Memories strongly advocates a backup to another hard drive or DVD.
I have opted to separate my images into vaults named WORK and FAMILY DOCS. With the two vaults, my family with research remains separate from articles and client research. Vaults may be combined or single images may be easily moved between vaults.
In a vault, Media Library allows for viewing of all vault images. The categories and tags allow for viewing of specific groups. I have decided to name categories such as:
- Census
- Military
- Newspapers
- Surnames
- Cemeteries
- Repository
Ways to share images:
- Flickr
- CD
- Slideshow
- Movie Maker
The images may be linked to genealogical software programs such as Roots Magic. The genealogical software does not store the images. Memory Manager is the storage vault. Roots Magic media will link to the image.
The family historian will use Memory Manager to organize and store documents; this storage allows ease for finding and using the documents. The software is easy to use with many enhancements such as image enhancements and face recognition.
My Creative Memories manager, Dee Leclair provides instruction on how to make the most of the two software programs and scrapbook supplies. Dee is also a genealogist and photographer. She understands the desires of the family historian. The software in download form is 30% off until March 28, 2013.
