Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) may be getting married on “How I Met Your Mother,” but he’s still Ted’s (Josh Radnor) wingman, and he’s still got plenty of “historical” stories to tell. When Barney isn’t trying to keep his reverend happy on “Knight Vision” — which aired October 21 — he’s making sure Ted is finding someone to spend his weekend with. He describes the importance of this through a retelling of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," a.k.a., the quest for the holy grail of cups.
This storyline for Ted could have quickly devolved into one of Ted’s many disasters. After all, Cassie (Anna Camp) clearly isn’t the one, and not just because she isn’t played by Cristin Milioti. She’s a train wreck of a woman, and Ted is just about to overlook that all in favor of meaningless sex. Thankfully, he’s finally growing up on “HIMYM,” and he realizes that isn’t what either she or he needs. So he has Cassie to thank for a lot, because had he hooked up with someone, he probably wouldn’t have been in the right place at the right time to meet the mother.
But what was everyone else up to during “How I Met Your Mother” “Knight Vision”? Right in line with Barney and Robin’s (Cobie Smulders) courtship, they lied to their reverend about “how they met.” Instead, they told Lily (Alyson Hannigan) and Marshall’s (Jason Segel) story. Of course that doesn’t end well, but it ends worse for the Reverend, who apparently seems to have died from shock. So at least they have the church, but now they need someone to marry them. A new judge named Marshall perhaps?
Well that’s a story in its own right. Marshall is finally thinking about how to break the news to Lily, something that Daphne (Sherri Shepherd) forces him to think about. But turns out he doesn’t need to tell her — because Daphne already has. That was cruel and unusual, considering it’s not quite clear just how much Marshall offended her. She is an oil lobbyist after all, and she knows that’s what Marshall has long fought against.
What did you think of the story of 45 hours before the wedding? Did you like the knight ghost telling Ted that he chose poor constantly? What else will go wrong for Barney and Robin next?
“How I Met Your Mother” airs on CBS Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT.
