"How I Met Your Mother" "Bad Crazy," which aired Feb. 11 on CBS, was largely pointless as Ted (Josh Radnor) continued his pursuit for the woman of his dreams. Ted is still spending time with Jeanette (Abby Elliott), and there's nothing remotely dreamy about her. While Ted is recounting the story of Jeanette throwing a beer bottle at his TV -- and giving the lame excuse that she missed the window -- Robin (Cobie Smulders) is afraid to hold baby Marvin.
Robin's "HIMYM" story, at least, is at once believable -- after all she's never liked kids much -- and endearing. When Lily (Alyson Hannigan) leaves her alone with Marvin outside, Robin is too afraid to pick him up when he cries.
The story of what happened that day unfolds over the course of 17 years as Robin slowly gives Lily the puzzle pieces of what really happened over wine. And "that is it," Robin keeps saying, until she reveals that no, it wasn't an old lady stranger that helped Robin that fateful day. Rather it was none other than Mike Tyson, who encouraged them to warm up at the local strip club. "You waited 17 years to tell me you met the greatest boxer of all time?" Lily yells.
Robin of course does eventually hold Marvin, calling it "exhilarating," but that's hardly the focus of "How I Met Your Mother" "Bad Crazy."
Rather, that focus all belongs to Ted, who suddenly loves the single life. After all, look at all the people he's dated over the years! But that montage forgets a point that has been reiterated time and time again on the CBS comedy. Even when Ted was making stupid relationship decisions, he was all about finding the 'one.'
And Jeanette is clearly not the one. Ted knows it, and the rest of the "HIMYM" gang knows it -- so why is he with her? Is it because she looks sexy in his red cowboy boots? Does Ted think a relationship is only normal when he asks Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Marshall (Jason Segel) to keep her out of his apartment, and then he dresses as Boba Fett and tries to kick her out of his room? Is Ted just delusional?
Well, Mike Tyson has another theory: if you want to know why a girl is crazy, look at the guy she's dating. It's true; Ted hasn't helped matters, not with the way he's led her on by making out with her after they argue.
So what is Ted's deal? Is he just as crazy too? Lily seems to think so. She's the wise one of the group, and yet she thinks Ted needs to get Jeanette out of his system -- even if it means the relationship will end up in flames some time down the road. And it literally will.
While Ted's relationship to Jeanette seems to exist outside the realm of possibility, there's something to Ted needing to get his craziness out of his system. After all, Jeanette is the last girl he dates before he meets his future wife -- and that's one hint that fans are glad to hear.
"How I Met Your Mother" airs on CBS Mondays at 8 p.m. EST.
