“Tenryu: The Dragon Cycle” is a fantasy manga series by Sanami Matoh. Hiryu and Ryukei are two brothers who are on a quest to avenge their father’s death. They rescue a young girl named Ryurei from Torao, an evil crime lord. They soon discover that they have the ability to summon dragons. It turns out that not only are they from the Dragon clan, but they’re also the reincarnations of the Royal Dragon family. Who is the Black Dragon and what does it mean for Hiryu and Ryukei?
This is a fine series, but it should’ve been made into a long running fantasy series. It would have given the story a chance to really shine in terms of plot and emotional depth. The characterization is pretty good, although Torao’s rather funny crush on Ryurei could have been fleshed out a bit more. The artwork is fine; through the character designs are a bit blocky. Honolulu “Fake” fans will find this manga to be a decent series.
