“Rozen Maiden” is a fantasy manga by Peach-Pit. Jun Sakurada is a hikkomori who is talented at making dolls. He pulls pranks on online businesses by ordering items and sending them back. However, it backfires when he receives a Rozen Maiden: a sentient doll that awakens when a key is inserted into her back and wound up. The doll, Shinku, is a participant in the Alice Game, a battle in which the winner will become a real girl. Will Shinku achieve this goal?
The only big problem is that none of the U.S. manga publishers have translated the second “Rozen Maiden” series yet. It’s a shame because this is one of Peach-Pit’s better series and the ending is pretty abrupt. The artwork has a cool gothic fairy tale style to it. The story has a lovely bittersweet feel to it and even has a philosophical side at times. Honolulu Peach-Pit fans should read “Rozen Maiden”.
