“Love Hina” is a harem manga by Ken Akamatsu. Keitaro Urashima is a young man trying to get into Tokyo University due to a childhood promise. However, he keeps failing the entrance exams. To make matters worse, his parents kick him out of the house. His Grandmother offers Keitaro a job as caretaker at the Hinata Lodge. Unfortunately, it’s been converted into a girl’s dormitory and the residents aren’t giving it up without a fight.
The characterization is okay and the writing is good, but there is one glaring flaw that will put off some readers: some of the girls jump to conclusions that Keitaro is a pervert and beat him up. It’s a shame, because the women are actually fine when they’re not engaging in sexually based double standard slapstick. It also seems silly to go to a college just to be reunited with a childhood love when they may not want to go to college. If they can handle some problematic stuff, Honolulu fans may like “Love Hina”.
