“DearS Official Fan Book” is a manga anthology set in Peach-Pit’s ‘DearS’ Universe. Manga artists ranging from Takagi Nobuyuki of “Pure Marionation” to the creator, Peach-Pit, write new hilarious stories of the ‘DearS’ characters. Watch them in their wacky hijinks, ranging from mundane items like melon bread to crossovers with other Peach-Pit series such as “Zombie Loan” and “Rozen Maiden”.
It’s pretty interesting to see the characters rendered by other artists. The stories are decent, but it’s a bit surprising that none of the authors wrote stories staring original characters or flesh out the Dears’ history and psychology. Heck, an experiment “DearS” story would have been interesting. Although admittedly, a story that deconstructs the ‘DearS’ world has a good chance of ruining the light, happy mood of the anthology; so it’s understandable why none of the authors went with a more serious tone to their stories. Still, it’s a solid book that Honolulu “DearS” fans can read.
