“Danza” is a manga anthology by Natsume Ono. ‘Memories of the Lake’ is a time travel story dealing with a mysterious visitor who brings a father and son together. ‘Smoke’ is about two estranged brothers who have to deal with their troubled relationship when they’re trapped in collapsed basement. ‘Diorama’ deals with the awkward relationship with a German-American and his Japanese father-in-law.
This anthology continues the high quality cartoony artwork and slice of life story telling that Natsume Ono is known for. The story that stands out is ‘Memories of the Lake’ due to the fact that it’s a low key science fiction story. The author should broaden her horizons by writing more speculative fiction stories. It would be really interesting to see how she would write a sword and sorcery story or one dealing with supernatural creatures like vampires. Honolulu Natsume Ono fans should read “Danza” when they get the chance.
