Holly's manga perspective: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Ginji's Rescue Team

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Ginji’s Rescue Team, based on the popular video games series Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, and written by Makoto Mizobuchi. Ginji is a normal school boy who wakes up in the body of a Torchic. He befriends a timid Mudkip and sets off to find Xatu, a prophetic Pokemon who may be able to help Ginji. However, Xatu warns that Ginji is a human with a dark future. To make matters worse, a Gengar proclaims that Ginji is a reincarnated human who abandoned his friend Gardevoir after the former touched one of the tails of the legendary Ninetales. It is said that the human will take the form of a Pokemon and destroy the world. Is Ginji the reincarnation of that cursed human?

This is an enjoyable story with good artwork; through it would have been nice to expand the story for a few more volumes. It also would have been interesting if Ginji really had been the reincarnation of the cursed human, thus teaching both him and the reader the importance of facing the consequences of your actions and atoning for your mistakes. Gengar fans may be irritated by the fact that the Gengar in the story is a villain, although he does get better in the end. It’s a decent book for both young kids and Honolulu Pokemon fans.
