“Street Fighter IV: The Ties that Bind” is a short film based on the Capcom video game series. Famous martial artists who are the top practitioners have disappeared. Cammy, Guile and Chun Li are investigating the disappearances and suspect that Shadaloo may be responsible. Seth, the man behind the disappearances, is working on an explosive weapon called Blece. He’s looking for the one thing that can power it up: Ryu’s Satsui no Hado or the Surge of Murderous Intent.
While the main plot does revolve around Ryu, the other characters get enough screen time so that it doesn’t feel like the Ryu Show. The animation is good and the plot is solid with plenty of action scenes to satisfy Fighting Game fans. The real problem is that it’s only available as part of the collectors’ edition of “Street Fighter IV”, making it difficult for fans who have no interest in playing the game to get it. If they can, Honolulu “Street Fighter” fans should watch the film.
