“Polyphonica” is a fantasy series based on the visual novel. Spirits roam freely in the world, so humans known as Dantists must tame them with music. Their instruments are known as Commandia. Phoron is a Dantist who made a contract with Corticarte Apa Lagranges, a powerful spirit known as the Crimson Annihilator. They work at the Tsuge Dantist Office, dealing with both spirits and opposing Dantist.
It’s a solid series with good animation. Interestingly, Corticarte looks a lot like Kyoko from “Puella Magi Madoka Magica”. The artists really should have gone crazy with the visual look of the spirits in order to give them a more bizarre feel. It would also have been awesome if the writers put in more references to musical folklore and culture. They should have let Yoko Kanno or another world famous composer do the music in order to invoke the wondrous power of the Dantists. Honolulu anime fans can watch it on a rainy day.
