“Patlabor WXIII” is the third film in the “Patlabor” movie series. Inspector Hata of the Tokyo Police Department is investigating a series of violent, grisly deaths. It turns out that the culprit is a biological creature called Wasted 13. Hata’s meeting with Professor Saeko Misaki reveals her involvement with the creation of the creature. Can they stop Wasted 13 in time?
The Special Vehicles Unit only has a supporting role in this movie, so some viewers will be disappointed. That being said, this is an enjoyable movie with beautiful animation and wonderfully moody music. The story is good, although the biological creature seems a little out of place in a realistic mecha series. It would have made more sense if the creature was a sentient techno organic labor unit that escaped from a military laboratory. Honolulu “Patlabor” fans will enjoy this long awaited third addition to the “Patlabor” film series.
