“Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone” is the first in the “Dragon Ball Z” movie series. Gohan has been kidnapped by Garlic Jr. for the Dragon Ball that he wears on his head. Once Garlic Jr. gets all Seven Dragon balls, he can summon Shenron and wish for immortality. Then he plans to get revenge for his father, Garlic. Goku and his friends arrive, but Garlic Jr. has a nasty surprise for them: the Dead Zone. A vortex that sucks its victims in, trapping them for eternity.
This movie basically confirms the “Dragon Ball Z Abridged” comedy series’ joke that Gohan’s four star ball hat is going to make him a target for every bad guy who wants the Dragon Balls. That aside, it’s a decent film with pretty good animation. Gohan’s hallucinogenic trip is pretty entertaining. Viewers should be warned that a character accidently swallows some pee. “Dead Zone” is a good popcorn flick for Honolulu Dragon Ball Z fans.
