Bleach: Fade to Black, I Call Your Name is the third film in the Bleach movie series. Two mysterious figures break into Mayuri Kurotsuchi’s laboratory and attack him with a scythe. It causes him to go mad and destroy his own lab equipment that results in an explosion that damages the Seiretei. The duo then uses the scythe on Rukia and kidnaps her. A bizarre disturbance in the living world prompts Ichigo and Kon to head to Kisuke Urahara’s shop for answers. He points them in the direction of the Soul Society, however, when they arrive there, the Soul Reapers have no memory of either him or Rukia. Can Ichigo find out what’s going on and find Rukia before it’s too late?
This movie is as good as Memories of Nobody thanks to an interesting plot with emotional warmth. The antagonists are good in that you don’t have to make an enemy act like a two-dimensional villain to be a credible threat. All you need is enough blind anger and stubborn obliviousness to cause a lot of damage. While Kenpachi only has a small role in the movie, he pulls off an impressive feat by breaking out of the harden reishi without outside help. It is odd that Viz shortened the title, as the full verison is wonderfully poetic without a whiff of pretentiousness. Honolulu Bleach fans should watch this anime.
