Fashion week is here! Examiner.com was on the scene at the BCBGMaxAzria Spring 2014 Presentation at the Theatre at Lincoln Center as a part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on Thursday. We began our morning backstage with Sephora, the look was curated by Val Garland. "The look is all very soft colors; nothing too harsh, nothing too done, very organic. It’s kind of reminiscent of a beachy look, using a sun-kissed look with not only the bronzer on the cheeks, but you’re putting it on the eyes," SephoraPro Julie Teng told Examiner.com.
Next we headed over to the backstage red carpet where the celebrities began arriving! Heidi Klum, Giuliana Rancic, Olivia Palermo, Jamie Chung, Jesse Metcalfe and fiancée actress Cara Santana, Selita Ebanks, Estelle and Atlantic recording artist Lauriana Mae were a few of the notables in attendance. "I love Max Azria because he designs for women. I love their lines, I love their fabrics. I love that you can go in there and pick an outfit out for any occasion," Ebanks told Examiner.com. All of these celebrity guests were dressed in BCBGMaxAzria and after doing interviews, they took their seats in the front row.
Before the presentation began we spoke with actor Jesse Metcalfe and his lovely fiancee.
Q: Can you describe your personal style?
Metcalfe: I like to keep it classic, masculine, but at the same time bring in a little sexiness, a little edge.
Q: Who are some of your favorite menswear designers?
Metcalfe: Tom Ford is probably right at the top. Alexander Wang. Those are two totally different sensibilities. For a suit, I think nobody does it better than Tom Ford. But also Calvin Klein is doing tremendous suits this season. I wore one last night and I felt incredible in it. But then for the kind of edgier day-to-day wear, I go to Marc Jacobs and also Alexander Wang.
Q: Are you excited to be here at Fashion Week?
Metcalfe: Incredibly excited.
Cara: Yes! I’m thrilled. This is the first time for me. I’ve been dreaming about this since I was 14 years old and I’m really stoked to be here.
Soon, the lights dimmed and the presentation began! The color palette included neutral tones like white, tans, pale blues. It was very laid back and chic. There were also some fun darker floral prints. We loved it. After the presentation we spoke with Max and Lubov about the collection.
Tell us about your vision this season?
Max Azria: It’s a woman extremely strong, extremely cool. It is sometimes matching with a man’s look. And it’s cool and relaxed, very feminine, very attractive.
Lubov Azria: Well, next year we’re going to be 25 years, so it’s very exciting for me and so what we did in the process of preparing for the show is we went back to our archives and we pulled out the pieces that we really loved. After we pulled them out we realized it’s not the pieces, but it’s the process. The process was really to reconstruct and deconstruct clothes, which is what we do every single day of the week. Get dressed, we reconstruct it, deconstruct it. So the first part was really about sort of women empowering. It’s taking a man’s shirt and taking it up, so it’s free and using all the details to make a beautiful, effortless dress. That was the first part of the show. Then we brought in the BCBG DNA, which was the flowing dresses, the cool jumpsuit, the separates and that’s the show.
What did you love about white for Spring 2014?
Max Azria: White is the best color in the world! White is easy.
Who is the BCBG Girl?
Lubov Azria: The BCBG girl is always in the forefront of fashion. She knows what she wants and she knows where to get it which is BCBG.
Max and Lubov Azria hosted the "Be Chic By Giving" New York launch Event following the BCBGMaxAzria Spring 2014 Runway Show taking place earlier that day. The event was open to the public with invitations extended to press, bloggers and notable supporters of the brand. Guests enjoyed champagne, macaroons, and an opportunity to meet Max and Lubov Azria while shopping the latest collection. In celebration of the three-day national charitable event, for every apparel item purchased, an item was donated to charity. Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child even made an appearance.
