I had a lovely time over the holidays getting caught up on my To Be Read piles. I have some great books to share with you. You are definitely in a for a treat.

Highlander Betrayed by Virginia-author Laurin Wittig pits Nicholas fitz Hugh against, the master spy of Edward Longshanks, again Rowan MacGregor, the orphan niece of the chief of the MacAlpines. It seems that England's King Edward plans to find a way to crush the Scots - one way or another. There's talk of a shield which protects the highlands and Edward sends his best spy back on the trail to destroy the shield so that he can take over those pesky Scots.

Nicholas is crafty and smart. He also has an uncanny ability to take on a persona and make those around him believe it. As Nicholas travels into Scotland he pulls the cloak of his own history around him and becomes Nicholas of Achnamara in order to find the Highland Targe and destroy it.

Rowan and Nicholas are thrown together when the wall of the clan's fortress collapses and Nicholas helps her escape. The clan is careful, however, and ensures their own safety as well as possible but the wall isn't their only problem - the chief's wife is sick. In any clan this would be of concern but in this case it's a really big deal.

Can the clan protect the targe so that it can, in return, protect them? Will the intense attraction between Nicholas and Rowan bridge their differences? Will Rowan be able to take on what is required of her?

You'll definitely want to find out the rest of the story. I promise!
