Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is a turn based strategy game developed by New World Computing and published by 3DO. The game was released on February 28th, 1999. The story follows Queen Catherine taking over Enroth due to King Roland’s disappearance. King Gryphonheart is assassinated, and the kingdom of Erathia falls into dark hands. The question is does the game series still go strong, or does it show its age?
Graphics-The graphics this time are much prettier than in the first two games. The creatures look awesome, the scenery for the Castles look superb, the battle scenery looks great, and the hero mug shots look fantastic. Everything looks flawless.
Sound-The music is much more alive than in the second game, and each faction’s town music fits to that town very well. The battle music is also fast pace, making battles more fun.
Gameplay-Gameplay is the same as before, but now all town creatures can be upgraded, which is something Heroes of Might and Magic 2 should’ve done. The skills from the second game return, but now there are more skills than before. Artifacts now work differently this time around, as collecting them no longer works, but now you have to equip the artifact. Players can now buy skills at the University. There are more map locations this time around as well, including the wandering scholar (which gives one spell, secondary skill, or primary skill). Another new building is the black market, which sells artifacts.
Features-With so many new features, it is really hard to explain it all. The only way to see these features is to play the game, and see the features for yourself. Be prepared to lose a lot of hours over this game.
Overall-Between the first three games, this game is the best. With the best graphics, sounds, gameplay, and so on, this is a must play for anyone who wants a solid turn based strategy game that’s easy to pick up and play, even if they’re not familiar with the series.
