This week’s episode follows the cosplayers as they all prepare for Megacon. And, while they all venture to be more adventurous with their costumes for competition, things get a little troublesome for a few and crisis of confidence hit the others.
Yaya turns herself into an action figure and heads to Denmark to judge another con but, not before paying a visit to her mentee, Riki, who planned to be the Rocketeer, pulling out all the stops on her costume impressively custom making every piece she wore. With the costume making, comes along the obstacles including creating the jet pack. All of that hard work pays off, though, as she wins first runner-up and the $1,000 prize.
Becky tries to make her costume bigger as she tries to become Taffyta, even having her roommate Lance build the candy car. And, while it was a really cool idea it all ended up falling apart as they learned that transporting a large Styrofoam piece could be difficult and risky. She forgoes the car and she depends entirely on the costume for competition, and it doesn’t necessarily work.
Meanwhile, Holly and Jessica compete against each other for the first time, causing a lot of anxiety on both of their parts as they create their own costumes but in the end, they learn that their symbiotic relationship when it comes to competition is what helps them get through it as sanely as possible. Although, their costumes were awesome, landing Jessica’s Tank Girl second runner-up.
At the heart of the show, is this group of people that put their hearts into making these really awesome costumes and showing the struggles each person goes to as they run the convention circuit. And, this quality in the show is just really great, despite the cattiness that thankfully is very infrequent.
