This week the cosplayers go to their first anime convention, Anime Matsuri in Houston. And, they all seem to be dreaming big as far as costumes go. For some of them however, bigger opportunities present themselves and kind of force a few to split their time as they race the clock to finish.
Monika and Victoria work together to cosplay characters from anime, Fushigi Yugi. Although, you can kind of see that Monika was kind of afraid of any procrastination on Victoria’s part and with her getting the Wizard World job making her leave for an entire week, doesn’t help her anxiety.
Meanwhile, Monika gets the awesome opportunity to interview for an internship at Blizzard, popular video game company. It seemed to have gone very well but, putting her behind on her costume making and also gives us the opportunity to see her aspirations.
After their individual ventures at their last con, Holly and Jessica team up again to compete at Anime Matsuri. Their idea for their cosplay? Popular internet cats in the style of the musical Cats. But, as they are planning their costumes, they get a commissioned design job for major director, Guillermo Del Toro, for a viral video promoting Pacific Rim. The costume seems to go well.
Becky gets invited as a guest to the con and gets to judge one of the costume contests, which shocks Monika as she goes to scope out the stage, not entirely convinced she should have been on the judges panel. She later pays a visit as Monika and Victoria are finishing up their costume and things get a little tense as Becky asks Monika to work together on a costume for an upcoming con and she doesn’t get the answer she wants as she tells her she’s the last person she’d want to group with because of how important she thinks craftsmanship is.
As pre-judging day arrives, all of the cosplayers are tense as last minute costume making becomes inevitable and you see how very serious this convention is taken and it’s absolutely intense especially with the simultaneous question asking and the poking and prodding which totally backfires on Monika and Victoria as the latter’s costume falls apart right in the middle of pre-judging.
And, though there were a few hitches, Monika and Victoria seemed to have done very well in the skit portion of the judging, unfortunately not earning them a place. And, Jessica’s wool allergy strike as her and Holly are about to take the stage and though they made it through their skit, they skip out on the results.
By the end of it all, Becky stops by to check on Jessica and after her rough conversation with Monika, she finds the exact opposite as she talks with Holly about her experience at the con and with Monika. It’s interesting to see how intensely they all take their cosplaying and the two sides to the world one can only suppose.
