Her by Spike Jonze shows us an artistically conflicted future

If you look through my plethora of tech articles and reviews of innovative products that I felt as if needed my input, you will notice I rarely write a movie review. Well in the case of Spike Jonze’s “Her” featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson, I have to make an exception. This visionary masterpiece gives us a glimpse into what our future could and most probably will become. Our central character, Theodore, who writes handwritten letters for people, engages in a relationship with his new Operating System, who calls herself Samantha.

Theodore is dealing with a divorce from his wife, when he sees a commercial for this new OS that promises to change his life forever. What he didn’t expect is that he would fall in love with her (it). Without giving away too many spoilers, I want to point out, that not many scripts that have been written lately have been so poignant and well thought out. The technology, wardrobe, production design, cinematography, character development and dialogue is just phenomenal.

I highly recommend “Her” to anyone who loves technology, love, romance, heartbreak, drama, and even comedy (there were many funny moments that had the audience laughing out loud). Two thumbs up, and 4 out of 5 gigabytes!
