Helmut Lang Fall & Winter 2011 Collection Review (Photos)

Helmut Lang Fall 2011 Collection, designed by Nicole and Michael Colovos'MO was genius, and one of my seasonal favorites. Every single piece in the collection is live-able, wearable, and utilitarian, clothing that could establish a wardrobe. The collection was inspired by the Cutting Table, a painting on aluminum by the contemporary artist Jaap de Vries. I also saw correlations in the collection's styling and somber staging to Sweden's; The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, currently opening in the United States, and the re-surgance of Gothic and utilitarian cuts in both styles and clothing. Deconstructed, uneven hems, raw seams, wool, fitted leather moto-jackets, & metal embroideries. The color palate consisted of bone white, dark blacks in both leather & fur, neutral greens and grey shades. There was a brief showing of a gorgeous cow-esque print, and a faded plaid, giving character and life to the collection. Asymmetrical cuts and military-esque tailoring was also present. Skinny and drop-crotch pants, and maxi skirts were all seen as silhouettes. The collection was shown on one pristine, pale, model, with jet-dark hair and a straight boys bowl cut. Motorcycle boots were the footwear of choice for all pieces, and the shoot was free of makeup. Helmut Lang's collection was genius and refreshing for Fall & Winter 2011 // 2012.
