One listen to Heidi Howe and you will be reminded of the great country music artists that have arrived on the scene in the past few years as well as the legends such as Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn. Howe's album, Be Good is a feel good musical experience that is full of twangy songs that dive into the pros and cons of the journey of life.
"Kind of Crazy," the lead single from the album is one of many standouts as Howe sounds like Natalie Merchant and Cyndia Lauper on the song. It is touching song. The instrumentation on "I'm Done" begins like many country songs do, but what makes it exceptionally unique is Howe's feisty vocals and vociferous offering. She means what she says and is determined to get the listener on her side. "Go Back" is another standout on Be Good. A refreshing country offering, Howe, mixes the genre with a heartfelt guitar in the backdrop.
"The Ramones and George Jones," is an introspective song as Howe gives her childhood perspective on the morals and values in society; while "Souvenir" finds Howe once again reflecting but on a memory rather than a thought-provoking display that was presented on "The Ramones and George Jones." The title track gives listeners an observation in Howe's musical influences and powerful, vibrant sound. The final track, "Ryan Adams Can" is a folksy package that blends the sound of mainstream country with the country Americana of yesteryear.
It could be said that Heidi Howe was born to be in music having grown up listening to her mother sing in the church choir and singing along with the country greats with her dad. Howe is one of those country artists who refuses to be placed in a box that defines her take on country music. Be Good will be the sixth solo release for Howe, as it is set to be released in the early part of 2014. Listeners will find that Be Good is quite the intimate experience. Heidi Howe prefers this and wouldn't have it any other way.
