“Heaven is for Real,” is a true story about a 4-year-old boy who visited heaven during a surgery and returned to describe what he had witnessed. The book has been made into a movie, which debuts in Charlotte on Wednesday. View the movie trailer here .
According to the book, written by Pastor Todd Burpo (the child’s father) and ghostwriter, Lynn Vincent, 4-year-old Colton Burpo survived a surgery to tell his family over the course of several years about his experiences in heaven. In the movie, actor Connor Corum plays Colton.
The boy’s father, who also is a fire fighter, garage door installer, and coach, is played by actor Greg Kinnear, who was in the movie, We Were Soldiers. Both movies were directed by Randy Wallace.
The book was published in 2010 and has been on the New York Times bestseller list and translated and sold around the world. Although the actually setting was in the mid-western United States, parts of the movie were filmed in Canada.
