Although Lori Contarino had been in the salon business for years, Indigo Salon & Day Spa, located at 165 Merrimack St. in Lowell and open since March, is her first full-service day spa with a staff that can only be described as extraordinaire.
But let’s begin with the ambiance, with its calming, inviting and aesthetically pleasing décor –sophistication lurks in every nook and cranny from the furniture picks to the subdued, neutral wall colors and sparkling impeccable hygiene in every room. In the waiting area where each client will fill out intake forms, you can munch on bagels and cream cheese, strawberries and granola snacks – and have some lemon water in between treatments. Oh, and you’ll want more than one treatment per visit.
You may want to start with a Suki facial ($65), performed by Anne Christensen, whose expertise is apparent with the analysis and recommendations she prescribes (no pressure to buy anything, but you’ll want to…). Anne has been working with all-natural products for the past 15 years, but it’s not only the products that sell her service – it is her magic touch, her hands circling around your bone structures and relaxing you so that you’ll walk out feeling as if you’ve just experienced a two-hour full-body massage. Seriously. And if you’ve got clogged pores – she’s on top of it and will suggest a routine that works for each individual.
Next service: Salt Glow ($65) scrub by Krystel Eliza, who uses a customized blend of sea salt and lemongrass (or lavender, tea tree or rosemary) essential oils that will leave you relaxed, yet rejuvenated. You’ll definitely wish the salt scrub would last forever – think light massage AND scratching of your back, legs (ooh those mosquito bites feel better!) and arms (gluts and stomach are optional). The best part is that during the treatment, you don’t have to get off the table to shower – and you won’t be sprayed by a Vichey shower. Krystel gently wipes the salt off using a warm, wet towel – before she’ll massage you (extra charge) to finish you off. Got a sports injury? Tell Krystel what’s going on and you may just get the opposite of a hot stone massage – a cold stone massage using marbles the size of hockey pucks that have been kept in the freezer. So amazingly healing. By now, you should be floating… but there’s more.
Why not get a pedicure and call it a Spa Package, adding a spa lunch – because by now you should be hungry for a healthy salad with chicken, which you can munch on while your feet are worked on by Nicole Matolla. Try something funky, like the new OPI polish that crackelures when applied. Red on white works quite well on the toes. Or, stick to the classics – your choice, but know that while you munch on a salad and surrender your tootsies, you can adjust the massage chair to waves or whatever your fancy is during that particular moment. Top notch massage chairs are such a great addition.
Now that you’ve been pampered face to toe, it’s nice to leave the salon with a shampoo and fresh blow dry, which is where owner, Lori comes in handy – for all her staff, apparently, as they all have amazing hair. She’ll make sure to treat you well – and quickly so you can head out and enjoy the evening with a new glow to your face and body – and a newfound spa to return to with your friends to try out more services, such as the PCA Peels or waxing and airbrush spray tanning.
Want the basics? The Sampler Package is also a great way to start. For $110, you get a mini facial, mini pedicure, manicure, 30-minute massage, hair wash and blow dry. Not a bad deal! Click here for specials.
Indigo Salon & Day Spa is open four days a week: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays – and available for private spa or bridal parties on Sundays.
