All the World by Liz Garton Scanlon

Happy New Year to all you readers! It has been an exciting year in books! And a fresh new year ahead with lots of great reads to dive into. To start this year today’s feature is a 2010 Caldecott Honor Book All the World by Liz Garton Scanlon. Quite fitting too as we are less than a week away from The ALA Youth Media Awards, Janurary 10th, 2011 at 7:45 am PST.

This book, intended for ages 4-8, is most fitting for 2-6. It has quick phrases and simple words. The illustrations are just superb; they are detailed, bold yet calming, following the storyline and incorporating and awesome message. All the World is simple yet deep. It is a great read to hone in on each child’s real world connection – depicting families, cultures, places, people and many of the simple joys each day holds. Showing many cooperative elements to life, people, places and community – this is a wonderful social awareness book for twos, threes, fours and more.

All the World, along with four others is being offered right now in Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories. Each story is in English and Spanish. So pick up your Cheerios and have a great read. And remember ‘all the world is all of us’.
