Hannah, Marie, Jessa and Shoshanna: the HBO Girls are now on DVD

HBO starts off the New Year with a terrific amount of new DVDs that demand your attention.

First up: Girls: The Complete First Season. In its debut season, the provocative series earned five Emmy nominations including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing. Some call it an “instant classic.” We call if fun.
The series follows the lives of four twentysomethings: Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shoshanna, all of whom are trying to figure out life. They've been living in New York for a couple of years, but they're still not sure what they want---from boys, from each other, from themselves. And things aren't getting any clearer. The answers aren't always easy, but the search is profoundly relatable and infinitely amusing. The DVD and Blu-ray box set includes tons of exclusive, never-before-seen bonus features including gag reels, deleted scenes, cast interviews and a collection of tweets by Lena Dunham.

41 is a rare, intimate glimpse at the life and times of the 41st president of the United States. The first documentary to tell George Herbert Walker Bush's story in his own words, the exclusive HBO presentation features unprecedented access to President Bush as he reflects on the highs and lows of his life from his beloved summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine and presidential library in Texas.
Bush shares anecdotes from his childhood, family, service in World War II and political career, including his roles as U.S. envoy to China, director of the CIA and vice president of the United States in the Reagan administration, as well as his term as president. The documentary deftly weaves personal photos and black-and-white family films along with news and archival footage as Bush reflects on his momentous life.
Written and directed by Jeffrey Roth, 41 was filmed over a 17-month period, from Sept. 2009 to Feb. 2011. The film was produced by Emmy-winner and close friend of the former president (dah!), Jerry Weintraub.

Funny or Die Presents, the hilarious half-hour sketch comedy returns to DVD with its brilliant second season of off-the-wall scripted pieces, animated vignettes, music videos and faux commercials.
Hosted once again by Ed Halligan, the very unhip vice president of sales and marketing at the Funny or Die Network, the show takes viewers on a comedic journey filled with never-before-seen original programming. With outrageous topics such as "Do You Want to See a Dead Body?," "Reenactments of Actual Conversations from the Ladies Rooms of Hollywood," "Terrible Decisions," "Men of Unquiet Desperation," "John and Will's Animal Choices," "Songs Four Our Dogs" and more, season two welcomes viewers into a wacky world filled with irreverent segments that are definitely not suitable for children. Featured performers include Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Gary Cole, Rachel Dratch, Rob Huebel, Deepak Chopra, Eugene Cordero, Johanna Parker, Romany Malco, Adam West, Paul Scheer, Rob Riggle, Kristen Wiig, Warren Sapp, Elijah Wood, Fred Willard and Zach Woods.
