Recently, Brooklyn based Hank and Cupcakes played a show at TT the Bear's in Cambridge, MA. Their style is unique and they delivered a solid set of songs from their self titled EP. Cupcakes took center stage with a set of drums and also provided lead vocals, while her husband Hank, forcefully played the bass guitar. Their chemistry was very obvious and it really showed throughout their 45 minute set.
All of Hank and Cupcakes' music has a certain tongue-in-cheek type of feel to it and that, mixed with the high energy of the band, made for a real fun, party atmosphere. Songs such as "Pleasure Town" and "Ain't No Love" had the crowd dancing and even had Cupcakes dancing along, as she played the drums. The duo's impressive sound is so big that it's hard to believe that they are only a two piece band.
Hank and Cupcakes have the important ability to connect with the audience. Throughout the set, Cupcakes encouraged the crowd to "go wild and dance" and asked the venue to make the lighting as "disco-esque" as possible. The crowd ate it up and danced until the very last note. This band is fun, unique, very talented, and if you get the chance to check them out live, you won't regret it.
